What you always need to do before taking any drug, and therefore Lorazepam, is carefully consult your doctor on any possible drug interactions and any possible allergies to any of the drugs primary or secondary ingredients. Notify your doctor if you are possibly allergic to Lorazepam or to any other benzodiazepim (including diazepam, clonazepam or alprazolam), or possibly of any other allergies, even if you do not consider them important. In addition, the product itself can contain some secondary ingredients, that you can be allergic or cause other problems, so talk to your doctor or pharmacist. It is also important to mention all of your previous medical conditions and complete history, with special emphasis on possible, liver diseases, kidney disorders, any respiratory problems, glaucoma, mood disorders or possible alcohol or drug abuse.

When using Lorazepam it is not recommended to operate a motor vehicle, or any other activity, which requires being fully awake because it can cause drowsiness or dizziness or even in some cases blurred vision. Lorazepam should not, under any circumstances, be mixed with alcohol.Always note that before any operation you should notify your doctor of any other products you might use not only prescribed medication, but also nonprescription or herbal products. As with all benzodiazepines have been known to have increased sensitivity to this medication, but in some cases it is possible that they do not feel any loss of anxiety. Members of the senior population are also more susceptible to some of its side effects. They should pay special attention to the possibility of being drowsy and loosing coordination. Also possible adverse effects can appear, in form of rapid mood swings, mental changes, rapid increase in sexual interest, hallucinations or insomnia. Lorazepam may not always be as effective with children also, in fact, it can possibly even have an adverse effect, creating symptoms like hallucinations, shaking or increased agitation, among others.

Similar to other benzodiazepines, Lorazepam is highly unadvised when pregnant. It is possible for Lorazepam to hurt the fetus. In addition, newborns whose mother used Lorazepam while in latter stadiums of pregnancy or just before the delivery sometimes had symptoms of the withdrawal symptoms, like slower respiration, problems with feeding, and uncommon drowsiness. Always talk to your physician to get more information about this. Also similar to other benzodiazepines when using this drug during the pregnancy there is always the risk of Lorazepam being transferred into the breasting milk and may have unwanted effects on the newborn, talk to your physician before you begin breast-feeding. Lorazepam can also cause in infants any side effects it can cause in adult population. In addition, familiar symptoms of Lorazepam withdrawal syndrome were noted few hours after the delivery and, in some cases, could last up to few months. It can also interfere with the liver of the fetus, and slow some natural processes needed to develop the babies’ immune system. These are some of the things you should keep in mind before starting a treatment with Lorazepam.
